Surface feature and material removal in ultrasonic vibration-assisted slot-milling of Ti–6Al–4 V titanium alloy

The continuous optimization of processing technology and evaluation methods is an important way to achieve high quality efficiency for difficult-to-process materials. To solve the problem frequent defects in slot, ultrasonic vibration-assisted slot-milling (UVASM) was developed titanium alloy. Simultaneously, comparative experiments were carried out between UVASM conventional slot milling (CSM), terms surface features bottom sidewall, cutting force, tool trajectory, chip morphology, micro-hardness. results show that uniform vibration micro-texture could significantly improve topography UVASM, while numerous feed trajectories observable machining detract from CSM. can greatly reduce material spalling edge breakage, thereby maintaining a smooth regular profile sidewall. tip two are highly corresponding textures sidewall surface. There high-frequency small-amplitude force fluctuation signal on axial waveform which instantaneous maximum stable stage by 8.7 12.2%, respectively. has better breaking effect anti-scratch effect, obtain higher micro-hardness deeper plastic deformation layer than those In summary, multi-dimensional status been completed, improved.
